Handmade Holiday Gifts You Can Paint Near Hickory, NC

Every December, the same thing happens at our studio: someone walks in "just to look," spots a plain white mug, and walks out an hour later grinning, with a gift that no store could ever sell them. Handmade gifts take a little more time, and that's exactly why people keep them for years.

The one thing to know first: plan 10 days ahead

After you paint, we glaze and kiln-fire your piece. That takes about 7–10 days. So for anything you want under the tree, come in to paint at least 10 days before you need it. The earlier in December, the less stress.

This is the gift that makes grandparents cry (the good kind of crying). Little hands get pressed right onto a plate or platter, and you add a name, the year, or a sweet note around the edge. Our staff is happy to help with lettering, for free.

How a visit works

• No reservations. Walk in anytime we're open: Tuesday and Wednesday 8am–4pm, Thursday through Saturday 8am–6pm.
• No studio fees. You only pay for the piece you choose. Paint, brushes, stencils, glazing and firing are included.
