ALTERNATIVE FIRING WORKSHOP with Gin Hurley 🔥
Saturday, August 22 | 10 AM–5 PM
Fire, smoke, texture, and a little bit of unpredictability—come experience the magic of alternative firing techniques during this special all-day workshop with Gin Hurley!
Throughout the day, we’ll be firing pieces using three unique techniques:
🐴 Horsehair Firing – Create striking, one-of-a-kind patterns using horsehair on hot pottery.
🔥 Raku Firing – Experience the dramatic colors, metallic finishes, and crackle effects that make every Raku piece completely unique.
🌾 Obvara Firing – Explore this centuries-old firing technique that creates beautiful organic patterns and earthy surface effects.
- Bring your own pieces or purchase pre-made pieces the day of the workshop. Basic firing supplies will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring additional materials if you have something specific you’d like to experiment with for your piece.
IMPORTANT:
Pieces brought from home should be made with Raku clay to help reduce the chance of cracking or breaking during the firing process.
🔥 Firing begins at 10 AM and will continue throughout the day until all pieces are completed, with all firing finishing by 5 PM.
Alternative firing is part art, part chemistry, and part surprise—you never know exactly what the fire will create! Come spend the day experimenting, learning, and creating truly one-of-a-kind pottery with us at CREATIVE Clay.
